ELKHART, Indiana (Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary) — Melissa Troyer of Middlebury, Indiana, concluded her role as Director of Marketing and Communications for Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) in Elkhart, Indiana, after 10 years of service. Her last day was Dec. 19, 2025.
Since joining AMBS in October 2015, Troyer oversaw and provided strategic leadership for marketing, communications and digital engagement efforts and messaging in support of the seminary’s enrollment and fundraising goals. Under her leadership, the AMBS Marketing and Communications Team expanded its capacity and reach, strengthening the seminary’s visibility and deepening engagement with a wide range of audiences, noted David Boshart, PhD, President.
“Melissa has led AMBS’s marketing and communications efforts with exceptional creativity, professionalism and care,” he said. “She has been a thoughtful interpreter of our mission, representing the seminary with humor, honesty and warmth, and helping us embody our commitments in the language we use, the images we choose and the stories we tell.”
Significant marketing and communications projects during Troyer’s tenure included two website redesigns; two major fundraising campaigns; annual Giving Tuesday campaigns; the addition of multiple social media channels; an update of the visual brand standards; the creation of resources to connect with constituents during the COVID-19 pandemic; and targeted advertising, email and social media campaigns to attract prospective students, including one in connection with a series of webinars by Associate Professor Drew Strait on challenging Christian nationalism in 2022. Troyer also expanded AMBS’s video production capacity, leading multiple video campaigns to highlight the seminary’s Teaching Faculty and resources and overseeing the creation of a videorecording studio.
As a member of the seminary’s Administrative Cabinet, Troyer made an impact with her thoughtfulness, her perspectives and her clarifying questions, Boshart said. He also affirmed her collaborative, no-nonsense leadership style and her gifts in building and empowering a strong team within her department.
“Melissa has nurtured a workplace culture marked by respect, encouragement and shared purpose,” he said. “Across AMBS, her colleagues have appreciated her collegial spirit, attentive listening, wise counsel and ability to bring creative solutions to complex communication challenges. We celebrate her many contributions and wish her every blessing as she begins this new chapter in her professional journey.”
Troyer brought extensive experience in marketing and leadership to her seminary role. Prior to joining AMBS, she served as President and Editor-in-Chief of InMiddlebury Magazine, a monthly print and digital publication that she founded in 2010, and as Founder and President of Harmony Marketing, LLC, an ad agency serving area businesses and nonprofit organizations. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Indiana University (1989) and also studied marketing at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Located in Elkhart, Indiana, on ancestral land of the Potawatomi and Miami peoples, Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary is a learning community with an Anabaptist vision, offering theological education for learners both on campus and at a distance as well as a wide array of lifelong learning programs — all with the goal of educating followers of Jesus Christ to be leaders for God’s reconciling mission in the world. ambs.edu
