Church leaders’ conference to focus on “Resistance, Resilience, Rest”
Published: December 18, 2025

ELKHART, Indiana (Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary) — How can leaders best prepare themselves to accompany their communities through challenging times with courage and conviction?
Participants at Pastors & Leaders 2026 will explore together how to nurture rested, resilient pastors and leaders who can lead resistance against the many forms of oppression and violence that they encounter in their contexts. The conference will take place Feb. 23–26 at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS) in Elkhart, Indiana.
According to Julia Schmidt, MDiv, who oversees the planning of the annual conference for Christian leaders, research shows that pastors experience a high rate of burnout, secondary traumatic stress and spiritual distress, which negatively affect their health and well-being. In response, she said the planning group designed the event to help participants gain resources to care for themselves and each other — looking to Scripture for wisdom, strength and inspiration.
“As a part-time pastor myself, I understand the complexity of leading in times of chaos, the challenges of resisting injustice, and the difficulties of taking care of yourself while also attending to the needs of your community,” she said. “We believe that this conference will provide participants with valuable tools to lead successfully in this current moment while attending to their own bodies and souls.”
The conference, which is hosted by AMBS’s Church Leadership Center, will begin at 7 p.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 23, and conclude at 12:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 26. Participants can attend in person on the AMBS campus or watch via livestream.
