AMBS engagement at MennoCon 2023
Published: July 13, 2023

AMBS alumni, faculty, staff and friends had many opportunities to connect at MennoCon 2023, Mennonite Church USA’s biennial convention in Kansas City, Missouri, July 3–6. More than 100 AMBS alumni attended the event, and around 60 people joined the AMBS Alumni and Friends Gathering on July 3 (at right, listening to President David Boshart give updates from AMBS).

At the AMBS Alumni and Friends Gathering (at right, clockwise from lower left): Sharon Baker, former Volunteer Coordinator; current students Scott Coulter and Ashley Hoard; Teaching Faculty members Jackie Wyse-Rhodes and Leah Thomas; and alumni Michael Swartzendruber, Gabriel Pennington and Christina Litwiller.

The theme for the AMBS booth at MennoCon was puzzles and “Find your fit at AMBS!” Convention participants of all ages stopped at the booth to work on a puzzle of the AMBS prairie.
Twenty-four alumni and employees led seminars during the convention, and four alumni provided leadership for the Youth and Young Adult Climate Summit that was held July 7, immediately following the convention.
Two seminars led by AMBS employees were featured in articles released by Mennonite Church USA:
- MennoCon23 seminar features Wild Church experience, led by Janeen Bertsche Johnson, MDiv, Director of Campus Ministries, Admissions and Development Associate, and Alumni Director (pictured below)
- Seminar brings awareness to the presence of trauma in churches, led by Leah Thomas, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Care and Director of Contextual Education
The articles, written by Jessica Griggs and Christle Hain for Mennonite Church USA, are shared with permission.
