About Daniel
Prior to coming to AMBS in 1985, Daniel was Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico for nine years. He lectures widely in North America, Latin America, and the Netherlands and has written extensively in English and Spanish, including several works on pastoral and interfaith spiritual care.
Daniel formally retired from his Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling role in June 2017. (See “Schertz and Schipani retire after 61 years of combined service.”) He remains an active presence on campus as he continues his scholarship and serves as DMin Faculty of Record.
Teaching and research commitment
“I view the church as God’s alternative community called to carry on Jesus’ liberating, healing, reconciling, and recreating ministry. As a living sign of divine love and wisdom in and for the world, the church celebrates, embodies, and witnesses the reign of God in the midst of the larger social context. Practical theology involves contextual and committed reflection on the life and ministry of the church and on the processes of formation and transformation of persons, families, and communities. Therefore, faithful and competent leadership is essential. I enjoy being part of AMBS´s team in the Doctor of Ministry in Leadership program.”
