Seaching for Scripture Texts
in the ATLA Religion Database
The
ATLA Religion Database is an index to journal
articles, book reviews and essays in books. Full text is available for some journal
articles.
- To search by scripture text,
- Select "Scriptures"
in the blue menu bar at the top.
In the "Browsing" box,
enter Bible book name, chapter number and colon .
(See format below.)
- Press "Browse".
- Check boxes by desired texts.
- Page down using "Next" or "Previous". (Note
computer-generated order of chapters and verses.)
- After checking all relevant
boxes, press "Search" button.
View results noting journal articles and essays in books.
Select the title to view the full information of the
article or essay.
- Some journal articles have a link
to full text in
the record.

- Refine the search
by selecting "Search Options" in the right column. You can limit by
- language
publication type (article, book, essay, book review)
date
journal title
only journals articles with full text available

- To print or email selected records,
- Select records by pressing "Add
to folder" icon.
After selecting desired records, press "Folder" link
in the top right corner. Select the icons for
"Print", "E-mail", "Save", or
"Export" and follow
directions.

- To locate journal articles in the AMBS Library,
- Search the online catalog by journal title to determine AMBS holdings
OR go directly to the back periodical stacks and find the issue.
The "Check for journal holdings" link in each article
record may or may not be active.

- To locate essays in the AMBS Library,
- Search the AMBS online catalog by book title and note the call
number.
The "Check for book holdings" link in each essay record
may or may not be active.

- Items not in the AMBS Library may be requested through
interlibrary loan.
- Request a book using your
personal account in WorldCat.
To obtain a photocopy of a journal article or essay, use a
paper request form from
the library service desk or email the citation to Karl
Stutzman (kstutzman@ambs.edu).
