Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary seeks a full-time volunteer to provide hospitality to guests of the AMBS Church Leadership Center and to direct the seminary’s volunteer program. The qualified candidate will be highly organized and reliable, have strong interpersonal skills, be open to learning new roles and technologies, and be committed to the mission of the seminary. This two-year term begins in August 2009. Availability for 1-2 weeks of training in late January 2009 a plus.

Position description

Purpose of the position

As a volunteer in the area of hospitality, the full-time volunteer (35 hours per week) will enable the AMBS Church Leadership Center to carry out its program and to extend hospitality to pastors, church leaders, alumni, community members and friends of AMBS. As coordinator of local and long-term volunteers, the full-time volunteer will make volunteer support possible throughout the seminary.

Specifically, the full-time volunteer will:

  • Welcome and attend to needs of guests of the Church Leadership Center for planned occasions such as continuing education events, weekend leadership retreats, weekly forums, Mennonite church committee meetings, and pastors’ regional meetings.
  • Direct a network of local and long-term AMBS volunteers to carry out a variety of functions for AMBS.
  • Welcome and attend to needs of Pastors Week participants.
  • Oversee hot beverage service in the Lounge as related to the coffee vending machine and kitchenette.
  • Coordinate welcoming events (teas, receptions, readings) for the campus community when Church Leadership Center guests such as denominational leaders, church representatives, etc. are involved
  • Additional assignments as time allows

AMBS will provide the following to the volunteer:

  • Living space in an on-campus apartment
  • Grocery allowance
  • Lunches in the Lambright Center Dining Hall (when open; follows school calendar)
  • Contribution toward full-time volunteer’s health insurance at $150/month
  • Living stipend of $50/month
  • Mileage reimbursement or access to seminary vehicles for job-related travel 3 weeks (15 days) vacation the first year; 4 weeks each year thereafter
